What is the difference between counselling and psychotherapy

What is the difference between counselling and psychotherapy?

Counselling typically involves shorter-term treatment for specific, current issues, focusing on finding solutions and coping strategies, while psychotherapy is a longer-term process that delves deeper into the underlying causes of emotional and psychological difficulties, often stemming from past experiences. Psychotherapy aims for a deeper understanding and insight into patterns of thought and behavior, whereas counselling provides immediate support and guidance to navigate present challenges.
