About me

My name is James and I am a psychotherapeutic counsellor. I'm also a UKCP-registered trainee psychotherapist, in advanced clinical training for a MSc in Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy at Metanoia Institute in London.

I believe the core principal of "I'm ok, you're ok", meaning I believe everyone has value, regardless of circumstance. All clients are welcome, regardless of gender, race or belief.

I believe in creating a safe and supportive environment where you can express your thoughts and feelings, feel seen and heard, and we can work together to improve your quality of life

What is Transactional Analysis?

Transactional Analysis (or TA) is a way of understanding ourselves and how we relate to other people. At its heart, TA is about growth, choice, and self-awareness. It gives you tools to understand yourself better — and the freedom to relate to others in a more open, honest, and connected way.

TA looks at the patterns we fall into — especially the ones that feel stuck, frustrating, or confusing — and helps us explore where they come from and how we might begin to change them.

One of the key ideas in TA is that we all have three different parts of ourselves: the Parent, the Adult, and the Child. Sometimes we react from our “Child” self — maybe feeling overwhelmed, hurt, or rebellious. Other times we might sound like a strict “Parent” — critical, blaming, or controlling. TA helps us become more aware of these patterns, so we can respond in a calmer, clearer way — from our “Adult” self.

Transactional Analysis is practical, down-to-earth, and often leads to real “aha” moments. It can be especially helpful with relationship challenges, low self-esteem, communication issues, or just understanding why certain things keep happening. TA is about becoming more autonomous — freeing ourselves from the unhelpful influences of the past, so we can make clearer, more empowered choices in the present.
